Physical therapist assistants are skilled health care workers who assist physical therapist in a variety of techniques, such as exercise and massage. They use physical agents such as heat, cold, water and electricity in the treatment of patients with physical disease and disability.
Goals of treatment include relieving pain, improving strength and mobility, and helping patients reach their maximum physical potential while learning to live within the limits of their disabilities
Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) work directly under the supervision of licensed physical therapists (PTs).
Physical therapist assistants work in hospitals, outpatient clinics, sports medicine clinics, subacute care facilities, rehabilitation centers, extended-care facilities , public schools and schools for handicapped children, nursing homes, and home health care companies.
