As greater public awareness of the field of dance therapy continues, demand for dance/ movement therapists is created. Fast employment growth is expected in assisted living, outpatient physical and psychiatric rehabilitation, and services for people with disabilities.
Employment will decline slightly in hospitals and nursing homes, which are expected to shift recreational therapy services to outpatient settings. Dance/movement therapists work in settings that include psychiatric and rehabilitation facilities, schools, nursing homes, drug treatment centers, counseling centers, medical facilities, crisis centers, and wellness and alternative health care centers.
Dance/movement therapy is used with people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds in individual, couples, family, and group therapy formats.
