Dental sterilization technicians work with dentists and dental assistants to ensure instruments used for procedures are clean and sterilized. The Sterilization Technicians prepares instruments and materials for patient treatment according to the infection control guidelines. They must wear protective clothing such as gloves and masks while sterilizing equipment.
Dental Sterilization Technician Dities:
-prepares instruments for use and maintain clean work stations
-receives, and inspects dental supplies, instruments and equipment and determines reordering needs
-performs dental treatment room disinfection
-assembles trays and sets arranging instruments in the correct manner
- stores, labels, and dates sterile items to preserve the sterile condition
-operates the autoclave
-responsible for maintaining charts, files, and basic documentation/
Average Dental Sterilization Tech Salaries:$27,315.00 – $35,706.00 /year
Education:
-High School diploma or equivalent
-Knowledge of OSHA or other sterilization standards / procedure
Dental Sterilization Technician Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-ability to operate basic office equipment
-ability to learn how to operate a variety of basic dental lab equipment.\
Dental Sterilization Technicians progress in the occupation becoming a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA), Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function (RDAEF), hygienist, lab technician, dentist.
