The Medical Assistant with Basic X-Ray program includes Medical Assisting training and Basic X-Ray Machine operating training .
The clinical courses provide knowledge & skills that include: phlebotomy, EKG, assisting with radiology procedures and radiology, the effects of radiation, positioning and procedures, pharmacology, lab procedures, assisting with minor surgical procedures, basic nutrition, assisting with patient examinations, infection control, and vital signs.
Upon successful completion of the Medical Assistant/X-Ray program, students are qualified to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant certification exam offered by AMT (American Medical Technologists), and/or the Registered Medical Assistant Certification exam, offered by AAMA.

Medical Assistants with Basic X-Ray Duties:
X-Ray Functions:
-Explain procedures to patients and addresses their concerns
-Assist the patient in preparing for the exam
-Ensure that x-ray equipment is operationally maintained.
-Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff
-Provide reassurance and support to patient throughout the procedure
-Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
-Ensure test and imaging quality is optimal so that physician can properly make diagnoses.
In addition to the x-ray responsibilities, Medical Assistants with Basic X-Ray perform administrative duties such as: greet patients, perform patient registration, take vitals, collect biological specimens, and monitor medical supplies.
