Podiatry is the treatment of disorders, diseases, and injuries of the foot and lower leg. The primary responsibilities of medical assistants in podiatric offices: billing, bookkeeping, medical record keeping, handling lab specimens, sterilizing medical equipment, correspondence, answering phone calls and many other non-clinical tasks that are vital to a smoothly running office.
It is also possible that podiatric medical assistants might be making negative plantar impressions of the foot. Taking and developing x-rays, and providing physical therapy. Medical assistants also do the initial interviews with patients, cut nails and even reduce routine excrescences. After the podiatrist’s visit, the medical assistant might apply the protective padding.

Certified Podiatric Medical Assistants assist the Podiatrists and ensure smooth patient flow. Podiatric Medical Assistants Salary: $39,000 per year.

The Podiatric Medical Assistant’s radiography certi!cation course is an 8-hour course which will teach the student how to perform a podiatric radiology examination. At the end of course, upon proving competency, Podiatric Medical Assistant will be certifed to take podiatric radiographs under the supervision of a licensed podiatrist.
