Most pharmacy technicians work in one of two areas, hospital pharmacy and community pharmacy.
The pharmacy technician will prepare and deliver drugs, store incoming drugs and make up sterile preparations. Some pharmacy technicians now also work for primary care organisations, providing advice on pharmacy services to local GP’s and others.
Pharmacy Technicians may work
-in retail pharmacies, mail order pharmacies, home infusion pharmacies, long term care facilities, hospitals, clinics, pharmacy benefit managers, large industrial complexes.
The demand for Pharmacy Technicians continues to grow. This high demand is the result of the constant availability of new drugs, the national shortage of registered pharmacists, the establishment of certified pharmacy technicians and the aging population.
