A four-tiered, competency-based certification process for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to better qualify staff to meet the needs of long-term care patients. Apprentices receive a wage increase upon completion of each certificate.
They can start as a nursing assistant and remain in that capacity acquiring some of the CNA specializations or choose to advance to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) and beyond. This occupation is seen as an entryway to the clinical portion of healthcare. They may even decide to take a different career path after completing the nursing assistant program.
