Holistic nurses strive to heal all aspects of the mind, body and soul to encourage complete wellness. They consider the patients’ physical health and spiritual beliefs, expectations and desires. Like any registered nurse, a holistic nurse’s primary objective is to heal the patient. However, holistic nurses use non-traditional methods to treat patients, such as acupuncture, aroma therapy, art, dance, massage therapy, meditation, mental healing, music, nutrition, physical therapy, prayer.
To be eligible for board certification by the AHNCC at the basic holistic nursing level a nurse is required to have:
-an active, unrestricted U.S. license;
-a baccalaureate or higher degree;
-at least one year of full-time practice or 2,000 hours of part-time practice within the last five years as a holistic nurse or graduation from an AHNCC-endorsed university;
-minimum of 48 contact hours of holistic nursing continuing education within the last 2 years
