Holistic Nurses

Holistic nursing embraces all nursing which has as its goal enhancement of healing the whole person from birth to death. Holistic nurses can assist with pain, anxiety, or end-of-life care by using holistic interventions such as massage, reflexology, imagery, energy work, and aromatherapy. A primary focus of holistic nursing is to bring caring and healing back into our health care system.
Holistic nurses strive to heal all aspects of the mind, body and soul to encourage complete wellness. They consider the patients’ physical health and spiritual beliefs, expectations and desires. Like any registered nurse, a holistic nurse’s primary objective is to heal the patient. However, holistic nurses use non-traditional methods to treat patients, such as acupuncture, aroma therapy, art, dance, massage therapy, meditation, mental healing, music, nutrition, physical therapy, prayer.





Holistic Nurses Education
To be eligible for board certification by the AHNCC at the basic holistic nursing level a nurse is required to have:
-an active, unrestricted U.S. license;
-a baccalaureate or higher degree;
-at least one year of full-time practice or 2,000 hours of part-time practice within the last five years as a holistic nurse or graduation from an AHNCC-endorsed university;
-minimum of 48 contact hours of holistic nursing continuing education within the last 2 years
The median annual salary for holistic nurses in the United States is about $55,000.
