Vision Rehabilitation Therapist Job

Vision Rehabilitation Therapist provides vision rehabilitation therapy to individuals who are vision impaired. This includes training in the use of compensatory skills and aids that will enable them to live safely, productively, independently and up to their maximum potential.
The therapy enhances personal management skills, communication skills, travel skills, low vision utilization, and home management skills.

Vision Rehabilitation Therapist responsibilities:
-Work in partnership low vision optometrist, ophthalmologists to develop therapy plans
-Facilitate psychosocial adjustment to blindness and vision loss
-Performs functional vision assessment.
-Provides one-on-one training with optical devices prescribed in Low Vision Clinic.
-Monitors client’s progress throughout treatment and maintains records and reports
-Selects constructive activities suited to individuals’ physical capacity, intelligence level and interest to: upgrade individuals to maximum independence; assist in restoration of functions; and aid in adjustment to disability.

Vision rehabilitation therapists work in organizations that enhance vocational opportunities, independent living, and educational development of persons with vision loss. This may include working in center-based or itinerant settings, including clients’ homes and workplaces. Vision rehabilitation therapists provide individualized programs of instruction that accommodate the unique needs of specialized groups, including persons who are aging, deaf-blind, or disabled.
