The vision care technologist is a licensed optician. Reviews patients chart for confirmation of physician’s orders and follows written or/and verbal protocols and instructions.
Presents contact lens fees to patients when indicated, obtains authorizations from insurance companies if indicated. Select appropriate contact lens based on visual needs, current refraction, keratometry readings and lifestyle
-vision check with refraction,
-soft contact lens fitting,
-applanation and Tonopen tonometry, visual field testing, OCT, fundus photos, IOL master, topography, dry eye evaluation and other diagnostic testing as necessary. Scribing for the doctor and keeping the clinic in an efficient flow.
-Take and place contact lens order and posting
Complete contact lens Rx for doctor’s signature
Bill and follow up with VSP on contact lens patients, including medically necessary
Follow up with labs on patients’ orders
Check in contact lenses (soft, RGP, specialty)
Call patients for contact lens pick-up
